![]() I cut more 3mm base and the guts (motors, EPVC using a superb tool which wiring and whatnot) plus I’ll confess I can’t remember I removed the switchgear where I bought it. Prior to photography around the remaining interior I stripped out the circular fan structure. MY BIGGEST FAN I wanted to fit a piece of plastic to make a floor for the garden I started off with the simple and it was a fiddly fit in and carcass. The fan is almost a metre tall and that’s much more of what I wanted. Whilst that’s not overly a problem (though it irks the ‘scale fanatic’ in me) it does mean that the are, perhaps, not as tall as they could be. Primarily this is because they really aren’t 1/100th in scale: more like model railway N gauge or 12mm wargaming (so 1/144th to 1/120th). Additionally I have some ‘high rise’ in the shape of MDF kits (4Ground) and the odd pre-built, Japanese tower block (from Kato) but all of these are, perhaps, slightly vertically challenged. This means I have low ground buildings often in resin or scratch built. I have various buildings that I use for 15mm (1/100th) SF games and I favour the ‘brutalist, mix and match’ approach. Well lockdown came and that day duly arrived. But when it died I put it to one side and thought: I’ll build something with that. When the motors burnt out it became apparent that the ravages of time not only affected the interior workings but also the outside: it had yellowed considerably as it had been placed in my old conservatory for a while, and when it became too ugly, it was retired to my work room so it had more than its fair share of spray paint overspray up the sides. At the time I’d thought that it looked suitably ‘space age’ (as one did at the turn of the millennium, I guess): it was white and sleek and had a hinged transparent top that covered the operative buttons. When I’d originally purchased it (as one of a pair, as I recall) I’d done so largely because of its aesthetics. I’m also a person that should probably throw › away more than he does, but a couple of years ago a twenty year old tower fan finally gave up the ghost on me.
